Recently, College of Foreign Languages (CFL) held a ceremony to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its shift from department to college in the comprehensive gymnasium on Cangshan Campus. Party and administration leaders, alumni representatives, and teacher and student representatives of the college attended the event.
The ceremony started with a video of reviewing the development of the college. Professor Ge Guilu, dean of CFL, delivered an opening speech. He said that over the past 30 years, CFL has embarked on the fast track of developing disciplines and various undertakings and that a school-running idea has taken shape, featuring “one main task, two major directions to become stronger, three aspects of building CFL, four guarantees, and five-round drivers”. The connotation development of the college regards promoting the high-quality development of foreign language and literature as its main task, strengthening the two major directions of “English” and “Translation and International Communication”. CFL will continue to create and carry forward the atmosphere with beliefs, academics, and culture, and will always provide talent support and intellectual reserve for telling China’s stories well, making China’s voice heard and shaping China’s good image. On the “Three-Sphere Integrated Plan” platform of knowledge system, education system and the system for contributing to national governance, CFL will give full play to the unique role of foreign language disciplines in integrating Chinese and foreign cultures and promoting the exchanges among different civilizations to make it easier for the world to understand China, Ge said. Well-known alumni from all over the country also sent their best wishes to the college they graduated from through online video recording. Lin Shisong, chairman of Eagle Eye Translation Service Co., spoke at the scene as an alumni representative. He reviewed the course of his struggle in his youth and expressed his gratitude for FNU. At the same time, he called on all the students and alumni to be proud of CFL, and to make contributions to the development of CFL.
That evening, CFL also held an opening party to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its shift from department to college, with the theme of “From Department to College: 30th Anniversary of College of Foreign Languages, FNU”.
